Program Overview |
In 2000, AB 1820 was signed into California law. This bill requires general internists and family physicians whose patient population consists of 25% or more patients at least 65 years of age to complete at least 20% of their mandatory CME, or 10 CME hours for every two years of CME reporting, in the field of geriatric medicine. In response to AB 1820 and to ensure physician members are continually receiving the most updated information and training in geriatric care, CAMASC has conducted an educational needs survey among its physician members, and through gap analysis research, identified the following four (4) topics to be addressed:
- Advances in Dementia Research and Approach to Diagnosis & Management
- Glycemic Targets in Elderly Patients with Diabetes
- Practical Approaches to Recognizing and Managing Mild Cognitive Impairment
- Treatements for Early and Advanced Parkinson's Disease
|
Educational Purpose |
The purpose of this activity is to narrow the existing practice gaps by addressing cultural, ethnic, and age-specific health disparities and new scientific knowledge to improve patient outcomes. A variety of teaching and evaluation methods have been developed to facilitate learning and professional devlopment. At the end of the seminar, participants will be able to discuss differential diagnoses, describe possible complications and list preventive measures, implement educational, preventive, and therapeutic interventions, and improve cultural and linguistic competence in communication in their treatment of the elderly. This activity is expected to result in increased knowledge/competence and better performance in making an appropriate diagnosis, providing effective treatment and referral or follow-up care, with the overall goal of improving patient outcomes for elderly patients.
|
Target Audience |
The target audience for this activity will be physicians and physician assistants whose patient population consists of 25% or more patients at least 65 years of age and those who provide health care to or are interested in the health care of the Chinese/Asian American community.
