Presentation Title: Prevention of Thromboembolism
Dr. Lee will update the audience on ethnic and pharmacogenomic differences in risk factors and provide data on compliance with preventive guidelines in United States and Canada.
Time: Sunday Morning
Purpose:
To improve on clinical competence and performance in the prevention of thromboembolism
Objectives:
- Examine the evidence regarding thnic differences in risk for thromboembolism
- Appriase recent data on the pharmacogenetics of warfarin in different populations
- Implement guidelines for different situations in prevention of thromboembolism
- Educate patients about anticoagulation medications
Current Positions:
Associate Professor of Medicine, University of British Columbia, Medical Director, Thrombosis Clinic, Vancouver General Hospital
Dr. Lee is the Medical Director of the Thrombosis Program and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Dr. Lee’s primary clinical research interest is in cancer-associated thrombosis. She was the Chair of the Subcommittee on Hemostasis and Malignancy with the Scientific Standardization Committee of the International Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis and she was a panel member of the updated American Society of Clinical Oncology 2013 Clinical Practice Guideline in VTE prevention and Treatment in Patients with Cancer.
Dr. Lee earned her Doctorate of Medicine and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of British Columbia. She obtained her training in Hematology and Thrombosis and earned her Masters of Science in Health Research Methodology at McMaster University.
