Presentation Title: Prevention of Cardiac Diesase and Prevention of Stroke
Dr. Fung will show how risk factors and behavior assessment could be tailored for Chinese patients, summarize new data, assess how guidelines apply to the Chinese community, and review patient and family education.
Time: Sunday Morning
Purpose:
To improve on clinical competence and performance in the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in Chinse patients
Objectives:
- Discuss a quality improvement project to determine adherence to guidelines for cardiovascular disease prevention
- Review new developments in lifestyle changes, risk factors, interventions, guidelines for women
- Utilize AHA Performanc measures for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease
- Illustrate the Chronic Care Model and the importance of language barriers
- Identify the use of the Framingham Index to risk stratify patients, and problems with the Framingham Index
- Implement ways to educat and assist patients and families about cardiovascular disease prevention
Purpose:

Describe how risk factors may differ for Chinese patients
Review new clinical data on physical activity and diet that are relevant to Chinese patients
Incorporate recent guidelines for primary prevention of strokes
Educate patients about the role of lifestyle behaviors and diet in preventing strokes
Perform culturally competent education on patients and their families
