Presentation: Colon Cancer Screening and Techniques of Polypectomy

Time: Saturday Afternoon
Purpose: To highlight the current recommendations for colon cancer screening and to review the various techniques of removing colonic polyps
Objectives:
Review the current guidelines in recommending patients for colon cancer screening
Discuss when to refer patients with known colorectal lesions for surgical or endoscopic management
Discuss how to prevent colorectal cancer

Bio:
Jerome D. Waye graduated from MIT and has been in the forefront of integrating technology and medicine after completing his gastroenterology fellowship at the Mount Sinai Hospital. He introduced the concept of colonoscopy without fluoroscopy by defining endoscopic landmarks and taught ERCP to all of New York. He has been president of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and president of the American College of Gastroenterology. He was a founding member of the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He has also received the highest honors awarded by these organizations, the Schindler award, the “Founder’s award” the “Master Teacher and Endoscopist award” respectively. In the era of live courses and live demonstrations of techniques, Dr. Waye travels across the world to introduce the latest methods and techniques of colonoscopy and complex polypectomy. He has just completed the editorship of World Gastroenterology News, the publication of WGO and OMED. He was international editor for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and published a column every month in the ‘Perspectives’ section of the journal. He is currently President of OMED, the international organization for digestive endoscopy. He has authored ten books, innumerable abstracts, and has published over two hundred scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. His book “Colonoscopy: principles and practice”, published in late 2003, received an award as the best scientific book by a review of International Textbooks. Jerome D. Waye is clinical professor of medicine at the Mount Sinai Medical Center and is director of endoscopic education at Mount Sinai Hospital.
